From the page: "When rediff.com asked about the possibility of violence on Thursday when the Olympics [Images] torch rally will be conducted, an anguished Tenzin said: "Why is the media doing this? Because of the media, the entire event is heightened. The media is depicting the torch relay ceremony as if it is a war. The government has pitched in 15,000 security people for a ridiculous torch, which is not even worth Rs 2. Because of the security, the torch has lost all value." When told that security was due to concerns of attacks by Tibetan activists and fear of a suicide bomber, Tenzin lost his cool. He said, "What are you saying? Who told you this? If you believe it, then shame on you! Show me just one example of such violence by Tibetans? Why do you believe propaganda of the Chinese government? We have Dalai Lama [Images] in heart, Gandhiji in mind and we are Buddhists. There will be protests on Thursday, but it will be non-violent." He added, "Of course, we will protest. We must speak out against the clampdown by Chinese government against Tibetans." "
Dalai Lama is wolf in monks robes: China

From the page: "Rattled by the massive scale protests and international reaction, Tibet's Communist Party secretary Zhang Qingli has warned of a "long-term" struggle against the Tibetan exile movement, labelling the Dalai Lama a "wolf in monk's robes". "We are in the midst of a fierce struggle involving blood and fire, a life and death struggle with the Dalai clique," he told a meeting of local leaders." ======= Dalai Lama- in all his grace, is trying to stick to his middle path. A commie's view may be immaterial, at least from veracity 's yardstick, but the way some pro-Tibet people are now giving him a re-look is interesting. Seems the biggest (and maybe only) calamity of this uprising is going to be him. Maybe, like Gandhi he should wage the non-violent battle on the very land it is for--in Tibet,in person. that would be a brave act. ======

From the page: "It's hard to describe the best bit in Sylvester Stallone's new Burma-set Rambo movie, cleverly titled Rambo. It could be the bit where the local tribesmen are forced to walk through a live minefield and are blown to bloody shreds. Or it could be the bit where the soldier's head is imploded by a point-blank revolver round. Or the bit when the children are shot and tossed alive into a fire, or when the nasty boy-raping commander is disembowelled, or when the entire Burmese battalion gets pulverised into a meaningless bloody mass by an enormous machinegun that's neatly wielded by our titular hero. No, in fact the best bit of Rambo is the stunningly audacious way in which all concerned with the production have justified its hyperviolent excesses in terms of contemporary politics. "

From the page: "In fact Kosovo is where the disintegration of Yugoslavia began 20 years ago, when in a fiery speech Milosevic promised Serbs he would do anything to protect them. He stripped Kosovo of its autonomy, which the province had enjoyed under Tito. It was when Tito died in 1980, that the independence movement grew. First there was a passive resistance, but that failed to achieve independence or even restore autonomy. Kosovo Albanians took up arms and with the Kosovo Liberation Army began attacking Serb interests in Kosovo. What followed was a bloody and brutal crackdown by the Yugoslav Army and Serb paramilitaries in 1998-99. It took 78 days of NATO bombing to drive Serb forces out of Kosovo, and since then the province has been under the administration of the United Nations. Most of the ethnic Albanians who had left Kosovo returned, and there were acts of bitter revenge against Serbs. An estimated 200,000 fled their homes, and today about a 100,000 remain in Kosovo living in enclaves heavily protected by NATO forces. What will happen to them in an independent Kosovo is still unclear. Belgrade, which opposes independence, wants them to stay there and will assist them financially to do so. If they leave, Kosovo will be lost for ever."

But then Benazir has good contacts abroad in your country (UK), who thought she was the future of the country." From the page: "THIS word, Frefatrape, is a word easily pronounced, formed by an expert etymologist signifying the long awaited free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections with which Pakistan is about to be blessed. The election of all elections (the mother of democracy) scheduled, as of tomorrow, to change our lives and to convert this nation from being the â€most dangerous country in the world†into the most peaceful of havens into which visitors, tourists and traders will flock, into which investors will pour their money, and about which all in the world will be filled with envy by the marvels we have to show. Hope must eternally spring in the human breast. So far the count of casualties has been low and by and large not high-powered. One powerful and attractive woman has been eliminated thanks to our allies and her friends in high places who considered her to be dispensable when it came to their aims and intent. Those who survive â€" the rest of them â€" leaders of the various parties contesting these elections will be regarded by the natives of Sicily to be capis, capo di capis, or even capo de tutti capis. Such are their shining reputations, such are their past miraculous deeds, such has been their power to attract unto themselves the assets of the people of the Republic of Pakistan."
